Online Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

There are times when we know quite clearly what has brought us to therapy. At other times, it can be harder to put into words. We may find ourselves repeating familiar patterns, feeling differently from how we would like to feel, or simply sensing that something isn't quite right. Psychodynamic psychotherapy offers a space to become curious about these experiences and to understand more about ourselves over time.

Looking beneath the surface

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is interested not only in what is happening now, but in how earlier experiences and relationships may continue to shape the way we experience ourselves and others.

Some of these connections may already be familiar to you. Others may become clearer through the process of therapy.

The aim isn't to search for a single explanation for how you feel, but to make space for different parts of your experience — including thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to recognise or express.

The therapeutic relationship

The relationship between therapist and client is an important part of psychodynamic work.

The ways we experience closeness, distance, misunderstanding, dependence, disappointment or being understood can sometimes become present within therapy itself.

Rather than seeing these moments as something that has gone wrong, they can give us an opportunity to think together about ways of relating that may also have significance elsewhere in your life.

What brings people to psychodynamic psychotherapy?

There is no single reason to begin.

You may be struggling with anxiety, loss, relationships, identity or a period of change. You may notice yourself returning to situations or patterns that you would like to understand differently.

Sometimes there is simply a sense of feeling stuck, disconnected or unsure of what you need.

And sometimes you may not yet know what you want to talk about.

You don't have to have it worked out before you come to therapy.

Online psychotherapy

I offer relational psychodynamic psychotherapy online to adults across the UK.

Sessions are 50 minutes and usually take place at the same time each week, offering a regular space in which we can gradually think about what is happening for you.

Working online also means that therapy can remain consistent wherever you are based in the UK.

Beginning

We begin with an initial consultation.

This is an opportunity for us to meet and think together about what has brought you to therapy and what you might be looking for. It also gives you a chance to get a sense of me and whether you feel comfortable with the possibility of working together.

You don't need to prepare anything beforehand. We can begin wherever you find yourself.
